Weekly Update 16 (March 2)

Well hello Sunday my old friend. And goodbye to February! I swear the months just keep getting shorter and shorter. It’s ridiculous. So let’s see what happened in the last week…

No books purchased for myself! I’ve been on a ban (read: it’s the end of the month and I’m waiting for my paycheck), since there’s a few books and some movies I’m saving for that come out in March and April. Namely, Catching Fire on DVD in the first week of March and Plus One by Elizabeth Fama in the first week of April! But, I did have a good week on NetGalley, being approved for Full-Blood, Half-Breed by Cleve Lamison, and The Here and Now by Ann Brashares. Funny thing though, since I was declined for The Here and Now, but then got an email with an invitation for a “read now” for it. Apparently they changed their mind!

My week was very busy, and I haven’t actually been able to read much. I’m starting to get the feeling that I need to set aside one day so I can just binge read. I miss those days! But then Friday night, I was wired the whole day, and when I got home I was in a weird mood and got a lot down around the house. Basically, me:

The highlight of my week was decorating my closet mirrors. I have this thing where I tape quotes that I’ve printed out onto my mirror, usually inspirational and/or body positive. That way, whenever I’m getting dressed and seeing how I look, I also see the papers. I was getting bored of the ones I had up, so I went through my likes on Tumblr and copied down all the sayings I really enjoyed. Here’s the fruit of my hour-long adventure:

photo 1Tada! Do any of you decorate your mirrors or doors with little reminders for yourself? I always find they help me get through the day when I’m having a rough moment.

As for my reading habits, I think I’m finally coming out of my sci-fi kick. And now I’m going to binge all my John Green novels (maybe reading The Fault in Our Stars again – oh dear save me now), and then probably read Fangirl, and then I’ll probably be exhausted from contemporary. And despite my attempts to clear up my NetGalley queue, so many ARCs are being added that once again I need to catch up on my review copies!

If you missed it, this week I:

This week, on the Writing Life I’ll discuss pacing your writing, I’ll participate in Top Ten Tuesday, review Eternal Curse by Toi Thomas on Wednesday, talk about when students teach teachers on Thursday, and review the first three books in the Mortal Instruments series on Friday.

Hope you all have a good week!

  1. I love the idea of putting inspirational quotes on my mirror, that’s brilliant Kayla! My favorites that you had up there was the one from Lord of the Rings and Looking for Alaska! šŸ™‚

I CAN’T WAIT TO READ YOUR REVIEWS ON THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS! I’m so excited to see what you have to say.

Looks like it was a great week, can’t wait to see your next Writing Life feature! šŸ™‚

  2. I have some of my favorite book and movie quotes featured on the screensaver for one my computers. I need to update it with some new ones because it’s been a while! It’s always fun to see them though!

  3. Ooh I love your mirror thing! I actually don’t really have a mirror right now haha. We’ve been looking for one for a while, but been kind of slacking on the task. There’s a small one above the bathroom sink that I do my makeup in, but it’s too small to do anything like that to it. I used to do stuff like that when I still lived at my parents’ house, though. I used to tape quotes and inspirational pictures to my walls and mirrors, and it used to really help šŸ™‚ I was always surrounded in positivity.

I'd love to hear from you! Comment below and we can fangirl, rant, or cry over whatever it is that strikes our fancy. I truly appreciate each and every comment, and I'd love to chat!
