Weekly Recap 31 (June 15)

Well hello Sunday my old friend. I can’t believe another week has passed again! I had a mostly quiet week, after my five-day vacation from all work entirely (when the doctor is out, the whole office is out!). Wednesday was super slow, since I’d slept very little and was fighting a nasty sinus headache. But then something very, very exciting showed up on my doorstep…

Stacking the Shelves

photo-2I won a giveaway about a week ago, and I thought, noooo it’s not here yet, and the box is too small. But then I saw the return address, and it turns out it was from Miranda! She had mentioned a surprise a few weeks ago, but with my crap memory it totally slipped my mind. And then it was there and… I just… I cried. No exaggeration here. I ripped open the box, saw the tote, and just started weeping. Out of all the BEA haul posts I’ve read, the one thing I couldn’t contain my jealousy about was that Throne of Glass tote. I could forgive the Heir of Fire ARCs and the Talon ARCs, but the tote? Oh man, bad blogger envy over here. BUT THEN IT’S THERE ON MY COUNTER IN MY HANDS and I just about died ❤ Honestly, my day would have been made just by that.

After reading Miranda’s letter (cue more happy tears), I opened up the bag at her prompting and saw the books inside. Imagine more crying and squealing. First was Faking Normal, which I’d just mentioned in my Top Ten Tuesday wishlist a few weeks ago, and second was Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (in hardback: I felt so special!). Both were ones I’d been dying to read, but never got around to buying/borrowing. And then I saw Since You’ve Been Gone, and I’ll admit I was confused. Miranda knew I had run out to buy my copy the first day it was released, but then I read the letter again (see – tears make you skip lines!) and saw a post it in the inner cover, opened it, and *hallelujah chorus*

photo-3Signed and personalized 😀 Insert more fangirling and squealing here. So while I may have two copies now, I DON’T CARE BECAUSE THIS ONE IS SPECIAL.

Thankyouthankyouthankyou a million times over to Miranda for this amazing birthday gift. I wish I could express it better or give you a hug or something but I guess this will have to do!

Seriously, you guys are making this a birthday month rather than just one day – I just feel so special!

And then yesterday I shamelessly capitalized on Barnes and Noble’s habit of putting books on shelves early and… *drumroll please*

photo-2At first I walked in and couldn’t find it, and was a wee bit devastated (never mind the fact that I was expecting a book four days before it’s technically released). But then I saw the paperback of Siege and Storm, and a bunch of other books that I know aren’t released till the 17th as well. So I may have almost pulled a belligerent customer moment and nearly asked someone to go in the back because I knew they’d be there and YOU CANNOT HIDE THIS BOOK FROM ME. Almost. I mean, I contemplated it.

Luckily, I didn’t have to experience what it was like to be escorted out of a bookstore, because I rounded the corner and it was like the heavens parted and angels started singing. And there it was! So now I’m able to read it before I go to the Fierce Reads tour on Tuesday!

In other news…

  • My car broke down. Again. I should now what’s wrong with it tomorrow, but until then my mom and I are stuck with trading her car back and forth. Now… I drive a VW Bug. She drives a Kia Sedona. Her car is like three times as long as mine, and it’s a V6 engine. Sooooo it’s taking me a while to get used to its size and power. I suck at parking in the first place, but now it’s three times as hard. As for turning? Well… I’m so sorry mom I may have run over a curb or two. So hopefully I’ll have my car back by Tuesday morning so I can drive my little Fiona to the Fierce Reads tour!

In case you missed it, last week I…

What’s coming up this week?

  • Monday – Review of Say What You Will by Cammie McGovern
  • Tuesday – Top Ten Tuesday: Books On My Summer TBR (we’ll see if I actually stick with it this time)
  • Wednesday – Saturated Reads: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
  • Thursday – Discussion of… something!
  • Friday – Review of Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens

Hope you all have a good week!

  1. It’s times like this that I get SO JEALOUS of people living in the States! Because that TOTE. And that BEAUTIFUL GOLDEN BOOK. Okay, I promise I’m not about to go all fangirl-crazy on you again, but your copy of Ruin & Rising is GORGEOUS. It already looks perfect in the picture, I can imagine what it’d be like IRL! But gah, I’m just happy I’m going to have my copy soon.

Miranda was so sweet to send you that package! Um, I’m a little embarrassed ’cause I didn’t know it was your birthday, or maybe you’d mentioned it before in a post somewhere but it’d just completely slipped my mind. O_O FORGIVE ME, KAYLA. But Happy Belated Birthday!!! ❤ *showers you with late birthday cupcakes and cookies* Is B&N the best bookstore or what?! I mean, we have pretty decent bookstores here in Asia, but we definitely don't have many of the latest releases… or collector's editions such as this one! Still, super happy that you were able to get your hands on a copy so early. And have fun at the Fierce Reads tour!

Can't wait to see your review for Say What You Will! I'm currently reading it and am really liking it so far. I know a lot of other people who loved it, too. 😀

    • GO FANGIRL CRAZY. JUST DO IT! And I’ll admit I kind of filtered that picture to up the saturation in the colors, but it’s still gorgeous in real life 😉

It’s not my birthday yet, never fear! It’s technically June 29th 🙂 I’ll still take the cupcakes and cookies though *grabs them all*

  2. Oh my… I LOVE THAT BAG! I saw photos on twitter and whatnot and had major lust. I’m a HUGE Throne of Glass fan. And the autographed Morgan Matson book? Just so lovely. Now you just need to convince your car to be reliable!

  3. GAH. You are making me want to go down to Barnes and Noble right now but I feel like the odds are against me. I want R&R so bad! 😛 And that is one awesome bag.

  4. That is awesomeeee! Glad you’re having an awesome birthday month? (I don’t think I greeted you–WHEN IS YOUR BIRTHDAY?) I mean… LOOK AT THOSE PRETTIES YOU GOT. Sorry about your car, though! I hope she lives and doesn’t break down ever again.

  5. I actually won that tote through a giveaway on Twitter but they wouldn’t ship to me. *glares* As much as I wasn’t desperate for it, it would have been nice if they had put a notice saying the giveaway was for US only or they wouldn’t ship to some countries. It just sucked a lot. I hate winning something and then being told I can’t have it because I live all the way in the Philippines.

So I kinda got jealous seeing that bag but I got jealous even more seeing that Ruin and Rising. ;_____; I really want the collector’s edition but since I live so far away, shipping is bound to be crazy and I can’t buy it. *more crying*

    • That’s so frustrating! It’s so simple to add a clause about INT or not. I’m sorry that happened ;(

Honestly, don’t feel so bad about the collector’s edition. The novella was good, but it wasn’t like OMG I NEED IT. It’s more like an expanded story that was mentioned in the book. So don’t worry too much 🙂

  6. Oh wow, happy birthday! I don’t know how belated that is! And it’s so cool that you got that tote! I’m trying not to be super jealous here. LOL Maybe you can come to Sarah Maas’s launch party for Heir of Fire! I plan to go though I don’t know when or where it will be! 🙂

Ruin and Rising! I saw you finished it on Goodreads and gave it all the stars – so happy! I hope to get it tonight and possibly read a few chapters before I have to sleep!

    • Not belated at all! It’s not till the 29th 🙂 And I will be at that launch party even if I have to take a day off work! Maybe. We’ll see. Let’s just hope it’s on a Tuesday and I can go 😉

A few chapters? Good luck with that 😉 When you’re up at 2am, don’t blame me!

I'd love to hear from you! Comment below and we can fangirl, rant, or cry over whatever it is that strikes our fancy. I truly appreciate each and every comment, and I'd love to chat!
