My Most Owned Authors on My Auto-Buy List

Most owned authors

Last week I was tagged by Veronica in her post that she adapted from a booktuber, and I couldn’t wait to do it! I had so much fun checking out my bookshelves and really seeing what I had – some of the results surprised me!

Basically, the idea is to gather your top ten auto-buy authors – but then arrange them by how many books you own that they wrote. This doesn’t necessarily mean that these are my only auto-buy authors, but in my case it’s actually pretty close! I originally thought I wouldn’t make it to ten, but I found that there are actually more authors I’d buy from without hesitation. Unsurprisingly enough, most of these are sci-fi or fantasy authors, but a few contemporary authors snuck in there too!

Top Ten AutoBuy 1

This one was the biggest “whoa, really?” moment for me. I wouldn’t consider Clare an author that I run out on the release date and buy her next book, but I’m inexplicably drawn to her series and the Shadowhunters, so I’m sure I’d hop out and buy the newest ones eventually. Although anything that hasn’t much to do with Shadowhunters I probably won’t be so keen on buying, but we’ll see. I own the full series of both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, as well as the Shadowhunter’s Codex.

Top Ten AutoBuy 2

Percy Jackson!!! This will be tied for first place with Clare when the last book of the Heroes of Olympus is completed and I can buy the boxed set and binge on them all in one week. But for now, I just have the five of the Percy Jackson series. I just love the snark and development of all the characters over the five books, and I can’t even let myself think about HoO otherwise I start salivating and lose my willpower of not buying them all yet. Just a few more months…

Top Ten AutoBuy 3

If I had guilty pleasures, McGarry’s Pushing the Limits series would be it. But since I don’t believe in guilt over pleasure, these remain a solid favorite of mine. The romance, the angst, the pain, the triumph – all the feels. And yeah the covers are a wee bit embarrassing to read in public (I dragged by best guy friend to BN with me and he pointed at Dare You To laughing before I told him it was a favorite series of mine *he laughed harder*) but who really cares because I love them all ❤

Top Ten AutoBuy 4

I count four because Unite Me is in paperback all in one and matches perfectly with the rest of the Shatter Me trilogy sitting so pretty on my shelf. I’m a bit more reserved about going crazy for her next book, because I’m not sure how her writing style will transfer over when it’s not Juliette’s kind-of-crazysauce mind. But I’m definitely interested in seeing what she does next, so I’ll be awaiting her next book impatiently.

Top Ten AutoBuy 5

The only reason she isn’t higher on the list is because this woman hasn’t published any more books. I’m counting the Assassin’s Blade as a book because although it’s novellas, put all together they’re basically a prequel novel. I can’t believe there’s only two other books in the Throne of Glass series – it feels like there’s so much more. But really, whatever she writes, I’ll pick up, no questions asked. (Like her next series, A Court of Thorns and Roses!)

Top Ten AutoBuy 6

Just like Sarah – I’d buy her entire library if it existed. But the Grisha trilogy is a magical series, and completely sold me to whatever Leigh writes. And we get THE DREGS next year!!! I am beyond ecstatic 😀 I’m just hoping and praying for at least a cameo from Tolya and Tamar. Please, book gods, smile upon me this day.

Top Ten AutoBuy 7

This is a recently christened auto-buy author, but oh the pedestal she sits on. Dreams of Gods and Monsters completely blew me away, despite the rocky start with Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Her writing style is perhaps one of my favorites, and I love the way she creates characters. Another author that I’d read anything from – even grocery lists.

Top Ten AutoBuy 8

The Legend series is still one of my favorites, and Champion made me weep like a child. But I haven’t read such a heart-pounding and adrenaline rush inducing series since my adventures with Stephen King when I was fourteen. I’ll admit I’m a bit hesitant about The Young Elites, but I think it has more to do with the fact that I hate the cover than anything else.

Top Ten AutoBuy 9

I know the only books she’s published are The Lunar Chronicles, but I love them enough that I’m 99% sure I’d follow her to her next book, or at least take a very close look at it. If it’s anything like Cress or Scarlet, I’m all in! If it’s like Cinder… ehhh that would make me a bit more ambivalent. *please don’t lynch me – Cinder was great, but it’s my least favorite for sure*

Top Ten AutoBuy 10

This is another that I’d have more – if they existed!!! I just love all of her novels, but Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour is my favorite for sure. It holds such a special place in my heart ❤ I’ll read anything she writes, and I’m already anxiously awaiting her next book.

Honorary Mention:

Top Ten AutoBuy 11Emery didn’t make it into the top ten, but merely for the reason that Open Road Summer is her first and as-of-yet only novel. But oh what a novel it is ❤ If her debut looks like THAT, I can’t wait to see what her sophomore book will look like!

Who am I tagging?

MUAHAHA! There’s no way y’all are escaping this one – it’s time to look at your bookshelves. So I’m tagging Miranda @ Tempest Books, Cait @ Notebook Sisters, Chiara @ Books for a Delicate Eternity, and Meg @ Adrift on Vulcan. I expect your posts STAT! Just kidding – take your time.

  1. YAY FOR RICK RIORDAN! So wait… You haven’t read HoO yet?! Or are you waiting for a boxed set? 😛 I JUST WANT BLOOD OF OLYMPUS ALREADY! I also have 3 Marie Lu books… The Young Elites looks so badass, even if the cover’s kind of tacky. ;P I haven’t gotten Since You’ve Been Gone yet. D: I WILL ONCE I SEE IT. And stop reminding me that I have to find Open Road Summer, too! ;P

    • I haven’t read HoO (DYING TO READ IT THE FANART GIVES ME FEELS ALREADY EVERY TIME IT’S ON MY TUMBLR DASH) but I’m waiting for the boxed set so I can read ALL THE BOOKS in like two days 😛

Have you seen the pinterest inspiration board for The Young Elites? SO AMAZING.

I shall never stop reminding you 😉

      • Oh dear, why didn’t you come to me about this? I have them all (yes all) and I recommend you at least read Lips Touch! Preferably in printed format, as there are some really amazing illustrations in it!
I can’t wait to see what the most owned lists from the people you tagged 🙂

  2. Ohhh, thanks for the tag! This is really very awesome, but I would be shameful…I don’t actually OWN many books. I KNOW RIGHT?!! I’m a book blogger, but I literally have only been collecting books for 6 months. Library = my one true love. The most I own from any author is John Flanagan and he’s not exactly on my auto-buy list. I just want to own the whole Rangers Apprentice series! I own 3 of Michael Grant’s Gone books…but he’s not exactly on my auto-buy list either. *shrugs* I wasn’t so interested in BZRK.
But seriously…you and me both for Sarah J Maas. I am SO FREAKISHLY EXCITED for her new epic fantasy series. But this better not mean she slacks off publishing the Throne of Glass series because ermagerd I need all 6 books stat, please, I don’t ask for much…just Celaena in my bookshelf.

    • Okay, then just top ten WOULD-READ authors that you’ve read the most books from 😀 There we go! Post away!

I think she just needs to write 24/7 so she can have both series out within the next two years 😀 Yep, sounds like a plan to me!

  3. I think everyone has a lot of Cassie Clare – she writes SO MUCH! I have TONS of Rowling (all but The Silkworm), and Michael Grant and Michael Scott are close seconds. Mainly just because of their series, though! Great post!! 🙂

    • I hadn’t even considered it until I looked at my shelf though! It was just funny xD I guess if I counted both sets of HP I would have Rowling on the list, but I don’t consider her an auto-buy because I haven’t read any of her other books. I’m just an HP fan and that’s where I’ve been for years 🙂

  4. Ooh, what a fun exercise! Let me think… Mine would be…

Laini Taylor: 6 books (+1 extra copy of Blackbringer)
Brandon Sanderson: 7 books & 2 novellas (+2 extra copies of TWoK, +1 extra copy of WoR)
Victoria Schwab: 4 books (+1 ARC of The Near Witch)
Marissa Meyer: 3 books (+1 extra copy of Cinder, +1 ARC of Scarlet)

Wow, this makes me look kind of like a crazy fangirl, lol…

    • I DIDN’T KNOW TAYLOR HAD MORE BOOKS. Kristy said the same thing and I just about flipped out when I saw them all on goodreads!

I really need to read more Sanderson – I’ve only ever read Steelheart, but completely loved it. Is Mistborn the next book I should read?

Crazy away Kelley 😉 I’ll join you!

      • OMG YES! As soon as I finished Daughter of Smoke and Bone, I went out and bought ALL of her other books, lol! They’re all excellent! ❤

And same with Sanderson. As soon as I read The Rithmatist, I started gobbling up everything else of his that I could find! I've only read a bit of Mistborn so far (sad, I know), but I found it REALLY interesting. I can't wait to read more of it! My favorite of his is definitely the Stormlight Archive series, but my husband loved Elantris, and I loved his Infinity Blade novellas. And I can't wait to finish Mistborn. Honestly, I'll bet ANY Sanderson book you pick up will be awesome, lol!

      • So The Rithmatist is good?? I found a copy at my used bookstore and snatched it up, but it’s been gathering dust ever since. It sounds like he has so many books out O_O It’s a bit overwhelming! I like the name Elantris, so maybe I’ll check that one out after Rithmatist

  5. Thanks for tagging me, Kayla! I don’t think I have that many to-buy authors though, if at all. :S Don’t think I’ll be able to come up with ten PLUS an honorary mention, but I’ll see what I can come up with, haha.

  6. Ooh Cassandra Clare. See, for some reason the older I get the less in love with her series I find myself. I’m not sure why. I don’t know if just the overwhelming popularity of her stuff has just turned me off, or the fact that she keeps setting everything in the Shadowhunter world, I don’t know. I own all of TMI and TDI except for CoHF, which I can’t bother myself to buy just because I’m so over it all now. I just don’t know what happened! >.<

And there's a couple on here that I feel like I really should read but haven't yet: Rick Riordan, Tahereh Mafi (own Shatter Me but haven't read it yet), and Marie Lu.

But the ones I have read and definitely agree with: Laini Taylor, Marissa Meyer, Leigh Bardugo, and Sarah J. Maas. Yes and yes and yes and yes!

Fun tag! I always see these on YouTube (and tags are getting quite popular on Instagram) and always wondered why we don't see many on blogs. 🙂

    • I was going to wait to buy COHF, but I won a copy, so that was nice. I think it’s because the hardbacks are $25 and it’s such a commitment! And I agree – it’s the kind of series I read when I’m looking for a book that won’t require me to think or be invested too much.

ASTI! You must read Riordan, Mafi, and Lu. ALL OF THEM.

I really love tags, actually. I don’t watch too much booktube stuff but all the IG tags lately have been really fun.

  7. Seeee you said at first you wouldn’t have enough but you do!! Huzzah! Really loved the list and I’m very happy to see some contemporaries up in there. *muahahaha*
But really loved that you did this! Thank you! *hugs from utah*

  9. Love this tag! 😀 I’m so jealous that you have all 4 Pushing the Limits books! My library just has the first book haha
YES to the Legend series. I’ll be getting the box set soon! *excited*
I have 3 Marissa Meyer books, box set of Game of Thrones and the Divergent trilogy.

  10. I agree with a lot of people on this list except for the top one and the last one, because I’m not a fan of the first and I haven’t read the last one. But I totally agree to the rest!

As for Marie Lu, I’m hoping for a cover remake because I do not know how they can continue the style for the next series because that would only end up in a really horrible cover line-up.

And oh wait, not much of a fan of Sarah since I’ve only read Throne of Glass and I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked. But she does have a new series, as far as I know. A twist on a fairytale I think.

    • Oh if you can I’d recommend trying Emery’s book! It’s lighthearted and summery but ohso good 🙂

I’m pretty sure this is the final cover; they’ve already handed out ARCs and such with this same image :/ At least I know I love her writing, and I’ll still buy it no matter what!

Throne of Glass is kind of like the intro book; it doesn’t get REALLY good until Crown of Midnight and the novellas 🙂 I think it’s a twist on Beauty and the Best, if I’m not mistaken.

  14. MARIE LU. LEIGH BARDUGO. SARAH J MAAS. Yes. These ladies.

Eep, there are a few authors on this list that I have not read. DON’T HATE ME.

I am glad you tagged me because when I saw and read Veronica’s post, I thought it looked fabulous. And I also kinda wanna see which owners I own the most books of (do duplicates count? Because then it might be a different story!).

Hopefully I can do it soon, but I can get lazy with these things – oops.

    • I could never hate you 😉 But I will be an annoying book pusher until you read them!

Duplicates don’t count! At least, I didn’t count them 😛 Don’t be lazy! I want to see it!
