Today’s TTT topic is: Top Ten Books I’ve Read So Far This Year. I’ve had an incredible string of FANTASTIC reads, so I’ll try to keep it to just ten. No promises though! I’ve listed them in order, starting from January up until now.

1. Avalon by Mindee Arnett. This was the beginning of my two month romance with deep-space sci-fi. I CRAVED anything space ship related for weeks after finishing this book. The friendships are my absolute favorite; Jeth is one of my favorite characters I’ve read in a while.

2. Me Since You by Laura Wiess. I’m honestly not sure I can talk about this book any more than I already have. Seriously, you all need to read it. It changed my life ❤

3. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. Cress is a close runner up for this slot, but Scarlet still has my heart. I loved both MCs: Scarlet and Wolf. And their relationship is SO perfect!

4. Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi. Another one that really, I’ve talked way too much about. But the character development in this conclusion was just flawless, and honestly I need a reread. If only for Kenji! But Juliette is great incentive as well, as is Warner 😉

5. Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson. This is one that made my heart hurt so much, but also filled it with happiness. I adored the road trip setting, the romance was perfect, and the friendship was even better!

6. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Another that completely, utterly changed my life. I felt like the book was speaking directly to me!

7. Allegiant by Veronica Roth. Okay, I know I put it off for like five months after I bought it. And I know I wailed for days about my feels and creys. But I’m so glad I pushed through it, because Allegiant was one of the best series enders I’ve read, right up there with Ignite Me.

8. The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas. The entire series is my favorite, but TAB really sold me on the whole thing, and novellas actually. I never thought I’d be so hooked on novellas before this book! And to have them all in print, in my hand – it was beautiful.

9. Open Road Summer by Emery Lord. Matt. Finch. That is all. Plus, road trips.

10. The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider. Still a bit miffed that the title was changed from Severed Heads, Broken Hearts, but whatever. I still love this book with all my heart ❤

11. Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson. Two Matson books on this list! That should tell you something about how awesome this lady’s writing is. Really, there’s no way for me to express how much I love this book.

12. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. I feel like this whole post is just me gushing way too much but ALL THE FEELS from this book! It’s so lighthearted and it makes me so happy ^_^

13. My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick. This is proof that you should always listen to book pushers: I almost didn’t read it, but I’m BEYOND glad that I did! Another that made my heart so happy ❤

So, I only did 13. Not too horrible! I can restrain myself after all. Also, a fun note: you can tell how my reading mood has changed over the last five months. Darker, more sci-fi and fantasy books, gradually moving towards light and summery contemporaries.

Weekly Update 20 (March 30)

Well hello Sunday my old friend. I can’t believe another week has passed again! Guess what? I didn’t buy any books this week! My ban is successful so far! Although I did have some fantastic times on NetGalley, and I was approved for a few books that I’d been dying to read.

STS 3.30

Throwaway GirlEssenceA Girl Called Fearless

I also found a new CD that I’ve been making grabby hands at for the past few days: All This Bad Blood by Bastille. I’ve been listening to it on youtube for now, and it’s released in stores in the physical format at the end of April. I’m making myself wait, even though I could get the MP3 version now, because just like my books, I prefer physical copies.

Other Life News:

  • I’ve been having a bad bout of insomnia again; I can’t fall asleep till 12 or 1 and then I’m up and down all night and waking up far earlier than I have to. I’ve been averaging 5 hours a night for the last week… Tired doesn’t even begin to cover my feelings right now
  • I finally read Allegiant, and while it was the most painful book I’ve read in a while, it was also a perfect ending to the series. I can see where some people got so angry, and I was too, but once I stood back and looked at the whole picture, I think the ending was perfectly suited to the themes and morals of the series.
  • I’ve been a bit frustrated with my weight loss attempts – I’ve been swinging back and forth between three pounds. I lose them, then gain them, then lose them again. I’m going to keep taking my supplements, but I think if all this continues I’ll get my thyroid tested again. I had some blood tests about two years ago, and they said I was bordering on some stuff, so I’m starting to wonder if I finally tipped the scales and will have something diagnosable. Because this whole protein shake and salads focused diet with zero changes is really starting to kill my morale.
  • Veronica and I saw the Divergent movie last Sunday! And other than the dude who so rudely sat RIGHT NEXT TO US IN A WIDE OPEN THEATER and then proceeded to hush us when we fangirled, we had the time of our lives. There were some fumbles here and there, and I think people who haven’t read the book won’t get it as much, but it was nearly as good an adaptation as Catching Fire in my opinion. There wasn’t much that I would have changed!
  • My mom and I went shopping at Bath and Body Works since they’re soap was super cheap and we had a coupon on top of that, and I found a new perfume that I’m IN LOVE with! I seriously can’t stop smelling myself. It’s kind of creepy actually. It’s called SKY and it’s kind of flowery and springy – perfect for the weather here in California right now. I sprayed it on the dashboard of my car so it smells good ^_^

If you missed it, this week I:

What’s coming up this week?

Top Ten Books I HAD to Buy but Still Haven’t Read

TTT BannerTop Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Check out their amazing blog here!

Today’s TTT topic is: Top Ten Books I HAD to buy but still haven’t read. So this week’s topic is technically 2014 debuts we’re looking forward to, but like I’ve said before, I’m horrible at keeping track of releases until about the week they’re released. I could only come up with two 2014 debuts, so I chose a different topic instead. One that I’m – sadly – quite familiar with.

1. Allegiant by Veronica Roth. Number one for sure! I bought this book the day it came out, and haven’t touched it since then. I’m totally scared of the feels.

2. Crewel by Gennifer Albin. I bought this one, plus the sequel, when I went to Albin’s signing, and still haven’t read them almost three months later!

3. For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund. I bought this one plus the sequel (again), and still haven’t touched it! I’m really excited for the sequel, not this first book, which might be why I keep putting it off.

4. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. I almost bought Fangirl too, but stuck with this one. And I still haven’t read it. Like a dummy.

5. Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson. This is double bad on my part because it was a gift from Andi and I still haven’t picked it up!

6. Pivot Point by Kasie West. Everyone and their mother tells me to read this one, and I’ve really dropped the ball over and over again.

7. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy. Since I bought it, I’ve read some mixed reviews, so I keep putting it off. I really am intrigued by it though…

8. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. Especially with Cress coming out in just a few weeks, I probably should put this one high up on my TBR list.

Top Ten Tuesday: Can’t Wait For Sequels

TTT BannerTop Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Check out their amazing blog here!

Today’s TTT topic is: Top Ten Sequels I Can’t Wait To Get My Hands On. I’m not so sure if this is included, but I’m also going to list my sequels that I can’t wait to read, whether or not I already own them. ‘Cause I own some, just haven’t gotten around to reading them!

Already Own

1. Once We Were by Kat Zhang. Not many people loved this one, but I adored the first book and I really can’t wait to read the next one.

2. The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater. I honestly don’t know why I haven’t started this one yet. I loved the first book, but I’ve read mixed reviews for the second. I think I’m just scared I won’t find the same love!

3. Allegiant by Veronica Roth. I have mixed feelings about this one, technically. I started reading it, but I’m just not emotionally ready for this. But I still have this absolute need to get it over with and read the damn thing! We’ll see when I finally grow a set and read all 500 pages.

4. Across a Star-Swept Sea by Diana Peterfreund. Okay, so I haven’t read the first book, but I only bought the first one because I really wanted to read this second one. Based off the Scarlet Pimpernel?? Count me in!

5. The Dragon Heir by Cinda Williams Chima. I honestly don’t know why I keep putting it off. I’ve had this book for months. Seriously, Kayla. Get a grip. Read the book.

Don’t Own

6. World After by Susan Ee. I don’t think I can emphasize enough how much I need this book in my hands right now.

7. Where Silence Gathers by Kelsey Sutton. I loved the first book, and was so happy to find that it was going to be a series!

 8. Champion by Marie Lu. So actually it’s Champion’s birthday today! I’ve ordered my boxed set and can’t wait for them all to arrive!

9. Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. Anna and the French Kiss made my heart sing, and I really hope Lola does the same thing!

10. The Treatment by Suzanne Young. I loved The Program, despite a few nitpicks, and even though I hadn’t expected it to be a series (though I’m not sure why I was that naive with the YA genre being as it is), I’m glad there’s another book to continue Sloane and James’ story.
