Top Ten Characters To Keep Me Company While Deserted

TTT Banner
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Check out their blog here!

Today’s TTT topic is: Top Ten Characters I Would Want With Me On A Deserted Island (pick based on however you want…skills they would bring, their company…or pure hotness factor :P) I actually think I’ll stick with those three categories! As long as this doesn’t go Lord of the Flies, I think I could be quite happy stuck on an island with these ten characters. I tried to get fanart for all of these characters, but some I just couldn’t find, so I put the covers instead. All art is sourced to their creators 🙂

For… skills they would bring

1. Karou from Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor. Even without the magic, Karou is intelligent and quick, and she would take charge and handle things in a crisis easily.

2. Sturmhond from Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo. I mean, who wouldn’t want to have a privateer with them? Not just for the hotness factor, I mean. He’s probably used to surviving in harsher conditions, and he could make any tough situation a bit lighter with his sarcasm and wit.

3. Celaena Sardothian from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. Of course I want an assassin on my side! But she’d also be nice to have for company – I mean, she loves chocolate cake. I don’t think I could hate any person who loves chocolate cake.

So. Many. Feels.

For… their company

4. Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Oh Peeta ❤ My one true love and first book boyfriend. I’m pretty sure I could be happy just by seeing him smile every day. That’s all I’d need to survive a deserted island.

 5. Josie from Love and Other Foreign Words by Erin McCahan. We could sit on the beach and complain about sock seams and shirt tags all day, and then talk about linguistics and syntax together. The time would fly by and we might actually cry when the rescue teams pick us up!

6. Cath from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Josie may be just like me, but Cath is my soulmate. It’s been several months since I read Fangirl, and I still can’t even properly word how much that book means to me, and how much it helped me understand myself. If I could just be with Cath for five minutes, my life would be made.

7. Emi from Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour. She’s got big ideas – maybe even too big sometimes – but I love the fact that she’s a dreamer. And she pays attention to the little details; the important parts of what makes someone unique.

For… pure hotness factor

8. North from Free to Fall by Lauren Miller. I mean, he’s a bit unconventional, but I’m a sucker for forearm tattoos. And when they reference literature? *swoon* Plus, he’s the most respectful character I’ve read about in a while. World is ending and girl is throwing herself at you? Nah, son, let’s save the sexy times for when we’re not acting out of fear. *swooning again*

9. Raffe from Angelfall by Susan Ee. *fans self* Let’s not get me started. This snarky asshole is the bane of my existence.

Yeah, I don’t like you either.

10. Matt Finch from Open Road Summer by Emery Lord. He could serenade us while we all watch the sunset. Now tell me that isn’t a beautiful, beautiful dream…

11. Levi from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I need a Levi. Seriously, someone make one for me. Or buy one. I’m not too concerned about ethics in this situation.

I just have to make a note here that while I’ve never read the Heroes of Olympus (just a few more months till the boxed set is released… patience, my love), y’all need to see this art. Oh lawd.

Top Ten Books on My Spring TBR List

TTT BannerTop Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Check out their amazing blog here!

Today’s TTT topic is: Top Ten Books On My Spring 2014 TBR List. This time I actually intend to stick to this list and finish at least half the books I put on here! My list doesn’t include the ARCs I’ll be reading, but they’re the ones on my shelf that need to be read after months of being abandoned.

318 TTT 1

1. City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare. I’ve lived in the bliss that was the first three books, and now it’s time to face this book and find out what happens next. I’M TERRIFIED.

318 TTT 2

2. City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare. And of course I also have to read this one, so that I’m totally prepared for City of Heavenly Fire when it comes out in May.

318 TTT 3

3. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. I’ve had it since Christmas, and I know everyone is gearing up for Dreams of Gods and Monsters coming out soon (when is the release date, anyone?), so I figure I should catch up with this series too.

318 TTT 4

4. Cress by Marissa Meyer. I ran out, had to buy it, and now it’s sitting there, just waiting for me to pick it up. I just want to be able to dedicate a good chunk of time, and I haven’t been able to find it yet!

318 TTT 5

5. The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas. This is mostly motivated by the fact that The Perilous Sea’s cover was just released, and I’m buying that book for sure. So of course I have to be ready for when it’s released this fall!

318 TTT 6

6. Taken by Erin Bowman. The sequel comes out in a few weeks, and once again I’m reminded of how many series I’m behind on. I know this one has mixed reviews, but I’m still really interested in the concept.

318 TTT 7

7. Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead. Veronica just might kill me if I put off finishing this series any longer. BUT I’M SO SCARED AFTER WHAT HAPPENED IN SPIRIT BOUND.

318 TTT 8

8. Crewel by Gennifer Albin. Owned it (and signed!) since November, and every time I go to start it, I end up getting distracted by something else.

318 TTT 9

9. Erased by Jennifer Rush. Andi bought me this one, and I’ve had it since January now. It’s time to see what happens next!

318 TTT 10

10. The Unbound by Victoria Schwab. While I wasn’t IN LOVE with the Archived, I still want to see where this series is heading. And hopefully it won’t have a horrid cliffhanger, because I know the series probably isn’t going to continue 😦

That’s my list for this week – link me yours below!

PS: Remember to go out and get your copy of Frozen today!!!

Weekly Update 9 – Christmas edition! (December 29)

Hi there! Once again, it’s Sunday, and time for my weekly wrap up post, where I recap everything of note that’s happened in the last seven days, including my Stacking the Shelves post – and this time it’s a big one, thanks to Christmas!

No vlog yet again – I swear one day I will take a breath and sit down. But it is not this day. This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you, STAND, MEN AND WOMEN OF THE BLOGOSPHERE.

Herm. Got a bit carried away there. I just finished watching the extended edition of the Hobbit. I’m in a bit of a Tolkien mood 😉

Currently reading: These Broken Stars. It had a slow start, but I’m starting to get sucked in!

Currently listening to: SO MUCH NEW MUSIC. The Catching Fire soundtrack, the Pacific Rim soundtrack, the Desolation of Smaug extended soundtrack, Fall Out Boy’s Save Rock and Roll, and Katy Perry’s Prism.

Currently watching: My new movies 😀 The Hobbit, Iron Man 3, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.

Currently eating/drinking: All the cookies from Christmas are gone D: I had a strong-willed moment last night and chucked them all out so I wouldn’t eat them, but now weak Kayla is back and I’m craving peanut butter again. I settled for a spoon of Nutella and a lot of water.

Stacking the Shelves

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. Check out her blog here! Basically, it’s a time where I get to show off all the books I got in the past week (purchased, netgalley, borrowed, etc).

Ohhh this was a good, good week. Between gifts, gift cards that I spent, and Christmas money that I spent, I’m almost overwhelmed by all the new books I have to read. WHAT DO I READ FIRST??

Control wasn’t supposed to be out till the 26th, but I was at Barnes and Noble on the 23rd and lo and behold there it was on the shelf! I couldn’t resist! And look!!! All three of the Pushing the Limits series in HARDBACK. Oh I couldn’t stop touching them when they showed up in the mail. And then the HP book was super cheap on GoHastings – I think I paid $2! I couldn’t say no to that.

I’ve already read Cracked, thanks to NetGalley, but I wanted a physical copy for myself. And I finally caved on that awful cover for DoSaB because I figured it was a gift card and not my own money so I wasn’t losing anything! Do you see how brave I get when I have nothing to lose? Sounds like a John Green novel right there.

And then… *drumroll please* THE BIG FINALE

I just… LOOK AT THEM. I couldn’t believe my mom actually got me the HP set, despite her confusion at me wanting another copy of the books I already owned. I love you mommy ❤

NetGalley:

Coming This Week

  • Monday – Review of Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
  • Tuesday – Top Ten Tuesday
  • Wednesday – A recap of 2013 and a look forward to 2014!

As always, this is a rough schedule, and I may add more or skip a day depending on how life rolls.

So now that I’ve shown off my incredibly amazing book week, what about you? What did you get for Christmas, or buy for yourself with Christmas money or gift cards? Enjoy the last few days of 2013!

Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Bringing Me

TTT BannerTop Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Check out their amazing blog here!

Today’s TTT topic is: Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind if Santa Brought Me. So on my actual wish list that I gave my mom, I only had two books, because she wanted to have a variety and said that I would buy the books myself anyway. Which is true… BUT! Here is my full wish list, with the top ten I hope to receive, or I’ll someday buy it myself.

1. These Broken Stars. This one is on my wish list, since everyone’s been talking about it and it just sounds so good! It’s billed as Titanic in space, and I see nothing wrong with those two comparisons, even if the romance is a bit kitschy.

2. All Our Yesterdays. The other one I told my mom about. Andi says it’s just amazing, and I had wanted to read it for myself anyway. Another time travel one – I can’t get away from them!

3. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. It looks like a sweet little romance, but I somehow I always talk myself out of buying it.

4. Where the Stars Still Shine. Another one that I always seem to walk away from!

5. Reboot. I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews, leaning mostly towards negative, but I still think the idea is fabulous.

6. The Testing. REALLY REALLY want to read this one but I always forget about it! I get home and see it on my wishlist and then I kick myself because I always walk by it.

7. Alienated. I was declined on NG so now I have to wait for its actual release date! A pre-order would be lovely. And I just realized that it’s released on February 4… That means Cress, Ignite Me, and now Alienated all come out on the same day. God help us all.

8. Scorched. I go back and forth with this one, and maybe I’d buy it if it was cheaper, but if someone else got it for me I’d be pretty darn happy. I’ve heard mixed reviews, so I try to be reserved with this one. But who knows – I’ll probably get spontaneous and buy it full price one day.

9. Frozen. This one was cut from my last major book haul a few months ago, but I still want to read it.

10. Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I want to read it, because everyone says it’s so good, but I’m afraid to spend my own money because that cover is just awful! Although that’s what I said about VA and now look where I’m at with that series…

That’s my list for this week – link me yours below!
