Top Ten Favorite Movies and TV Shows

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Check out their blog here!

Today’s TTT topic is: Top Ten Favorite Movies and TV Shows. Well, now that I think about it, I really don’t watch all that much TV (I specialize in rewatching Supernatural), but we’ll see how this goes.

TV Shows

1. Supernatural. The main source of all my feels – I’m currently rewatching all the seasons for the third time through, and it’s giving me ALLLL THE PAIN. My poor babies Dean and Sammy. Also: season 7 isn’t as horrid as I remembered.

2. Spongebob Squarepants. I’ve been watching this for about ten years now, and I still watch an episode or two if I have time during breakfast. I’m pretty sure my Algebra II class I taught last year spoke in 100% Spongebob quotes.

3. Avatar: The Last Airbender. Also the reason I love Netflix – MARATHON ALL THE EPISODES. Seriously, every episode is gold. Somehow I need to get all the seasons on DVD. oh my god they’re only $13 each on Amazon I neeeeeeedddddddd itttttt.

4. Avatar: The Legend of Korra. Totally a different category than the first show. I love the whole “old tradition meets new technology” issue (that was a favorite of mine to study in school), and even though it’s a lot darker than the first series (hello – season one finale?? I was freaking out), I still love it. Season three is fabulous, and I hate waiting each week for the new episodes.

 5. Sherlock. I still haven’t watched the final episode of season three (so so scared), but it’s one of my favorites for sure. I watched it for Cumberbatch, and stayed for the feels and awesome episodes.

Movies

6. Anything Marvel. Don’t even ask me to pick my favorite in the whole collection. But anything they put in theaters – I’m there! I’d have to say that Iron Man 3 was pretty awesome though, simply because Tony Stark kicked anxiety’s ass and that was probably the coolest moment I’ve ever had in a movie theater.

7. Anything Disney. I’m pretty sure I could sing any of the songs in my sleep. I also went through a period in college (dark times, those), where I watched Lion King at least once a day.

8. Anything Pixar. BRAVE!!!!!! That’s all. (But Wall-E <3)

9. The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit movies. Extended editions, of course! I grew up on LOTR, and can probably recite the lines along with the movie.

10. Juno. I watch this movie when I’m feeling wistful – the quiet pace of the movie and the feel-good themes just let me float for a few hours.

11. Okay… this is entirely Meg’s fault. I didn’t add this till 10PM Monday night. But I marathoned 13 episodes (as of right now… who knows how long I’ll stay up for this show), so I think it deserves a mention. And that show is… Attack on Titan. Yup. *cue Meg’s freaking out* My thoughts during the first episode were “WTF”, but then episode two and three came and… well… ADDICTED.

That’s my list for this week – link me yours below!

Weekly Update 7 (December 15)

Hi there! Once again, it’s Sunday, and time for my weekly wrap up post, where I recap everything of note that’s happened in the last seven days, including my Stacking the Shelves post.

So this week I didn’t do a vlog, for a few reasons. 1) I was tired, and ended up taking a two hour nap instead of recording my video. I feel so much better now! 2) No books this week! And I explain why below.

So here’s a picture of Kayla currently:

Currently reading: Ignite by Erica Crouch. I’m not loving it… Sorry Chiara! I’m going to read either VA #3 or Let the Sky Fall next.

Currently listening to: Vitamin String Quartet and their covers of Dare You to Move, Sail, The Good Left Undone, and Numb

Currently watching: Supernatural season 4. My Black Friday haul from Best Buy came in, and I’m marathoning the show while I work! Lots of final papers to grade before school goes on break this Monday.

Since I forgot to mention it last week: I got to meet Marie Lu on the 7, and while I didn’t have as much fun as the Fierce Reads tour in October, it was still really interesting to listen to all the writing tips Marie had for us. Even though I’m not a pantser when I write, it was interesting to get her perspective as a pantser. Maybe now I won’t be so anal when I go back to my writing!

And speaking of writing, I’ve started outlining my book again! I’m working on character profiles right now, and it feels so good to be back. They’re all talking to me again ^.^

Stacking the Shelves

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. Check out her blog here! Basically, it’s a time where I get to show off all the books I got in the past week (purchased, netgalley, borrowed, etc).

No books this week (as of Thursday night)! My money’s gone to Christmas this month, so buying for myself will have to wait. Plus, my mom would kill me if I buy myself stuff because apparently it takes away from her choices 😉

Coming This Week

  • Monday – Review of World After by Susan Ee (I promise this time!)
  • Tuesday – Top Ten Tuesday
  • Wednesday – Review of Flat Out Love by Jessica Park
  • Thursday – Discussion Post (not sure of topic yet)
  • Friday – Mini Reviews: Skin and Bones by Sherry Shahan, In the Blood by Sara Hantz, and The Summer I Found You by Jolene Perry

As always, this is a rough schedule, and I may add more or skip a day depending on how life rolls.

How was your week? Anything you’re looking forward to in the next few days? What sort of books did you pick up? And any good plans for Christmas?

Weekly Update 5 (December 1)

Hi there! Once again, it’s Sunday, and time for my weekly wrap up post, where I recap everything of note that’s happened in the last seven days, including my Stacking the Shelves post.

There’s no video today, because I ended up not having any time during the week, and my Saturday was taken up by cleaning out the garage. On the up side, I can stick my car in the shelter now and won’t have to scrape ice off the windshield every morning! Anyway, here are some general life updates for me:

What I’m Watching: Not anything specific at the moment. I ordered seasons 2-8 of Supernatural on Black Friday, and it came to a grand total of $75 for all seven! A splurge for sure, and that cut into my book buying, but totally worth it! I might go back and watch season 1 now to prepare for when they finally show up in the mailbox.

What I’m Listening To: “Numb” by Linkin Park, “Sail” by AWOLNation, and “Spectrum” by Zedd. I’ve been in an electronic/grungy music mood, or whatever genre they actually are. However you want to classify it, I need speaker-rattling bass lines and lyrics I could sing loudly to. Read: scream my lungs out and deafen anyone in the vicinity of my car.

What’s Exciting this week? DECEMBER 3!!! I GET MY HAIR CUT!!! It’s going to be GONE. I’m super excited, if you can’t tell. And now actually a bit nervous! After five years it’s finally happening. I’m a bit in shock I think! Also – December 7 I get to meet Marie Lu! It’s a two hour drive, so that will be a challenge too. Anxiety’s been a bit high, and I’ve relapsed a bit as far as panic goes, so I’m just hoping for clear traffic and a smooth ride. Last thing – 25 days till Christmas! I’m not so excited for myself, per se, but I just want to see my sister and mom’s faces when I give them their gifts!

Stacking the Shelves

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. Check out her blog here! Basically, it’s a time where I get to show off all the books I got in the past week (purchased, netgalley, borrowed, etc).

Bought/Gifted/Won:

photo-2

Veronica bought me the first VA book, since she knew I was such  snob for the covers. Long story short… I read it in one sitting. And so she lent me the next two because I’m on a book buying ban and she knew I wanted to get my hands on them. Also: having a best friend who actually shares your interests is the greatest thing ever. 10/10 would recommend. She also bought Let the Sky Fall when we went Black Friday shopping together, and left it at my house so I could read that one too! Steelheart was one I bought for myself, before I instituted the ban, and HOLY CRAP BATMAN one of the BEST BOOKS OF 2013 you guys need to read this one!

From NetGalley:

Nothing this week 🙂 Trying to wrap up all my NG books and book tour stuff before the new year!

Coming This Week

  • Monday – Book Tour for the Beyond the Eyes Trilogy – book 1
  • Tuesday – Top Ten Tuesday, and Book Tour for the Beyond the Eyes Trilogy – book 2
  • Wednesday – Book Tour for the Beyond the Eyes Trilogy – book 3
  • Thursday – Discussion Post (not sure of topic yet)
  • Friday – Review of World After by Susan Ee

Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I Would Name My Kids After

TTT BannerTop Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Check out their amazing blog here!

Today’s TTT topic is: Top Ten Characters or Literary Figures I would name my kids after. This one was from the archives, but today’s post is technically supposed to be Halloween themed. Which as you know, this is the week I make my hatred for all things scary and creepy known.

Girl Names

1. Luna Rose. Luna for Luna Lovegood, my favorite character from HP for so many reasons, and Rose because I like how they sound together.

2. Charlotte Jane. Charlotte for Charlotte Bronte, and Jane for Jane Austen. Two of my all time favorite books – Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice. And a nickname could be Charlie – for Charlie Bradbury, resident nerd and epic red-headed fangirl from Supernatural.

3. Tiffany June. Tiffany for Silver Linings Playbook, and Juno for Juno. Both characters who speak their mind and stand out because they don’t care what people think of them.

4. Minerva Jean. Minerva for Minverva McGonagall (plus it’s Athena’s Roman name – goddess of wisdom), and Jean because it’s Hermione’s middle name. Everyone will know how Hermione came to be, but Jean is a subtler homage.

Boy Names

5. Andrew James. Andrew for Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, and James because I think they sound nice together.

6. Percy Kyle. Percy for The Scarlet Pimpernel, Percy Jackson, and Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, and Kyle for my favorite fanboy from Sia by Josh Grayson.

7. Samuel Clives. Samuel, or Sam, for Samwise Gamgee (also Sam Winchester!), and Clives for CS Lewis. Loyalty and inspiring faith  – two traits I hope my son has.

That’s my list for this week – link me yours below!
