Weekly Update 7 (December 15)

Hi there! Once again, it’s Sunday, and time for my weekly wrap up post, where I recap everything of note that’s happened in the last seven days, including my Stacking the Shelves post.

So this week I didn’t do a vlog, for a few reasons. 1) I was tired, and ended up taking a two hour nap instead of recording my video. I feel so much better now! 2) No books this week! And I explain why below.

So here’s a picture of Kayla currently:

Currently reading: Ignite by Erica Crouch. I’m not loving it… Sorry Chiara! I’m going to read either VA #3 or Let the Sky Fall next.

Currently listening to: Vitamin String Quartet and their covers of Dare You to Move, Sail, The Good Left Undone, and Numb

Currently watching: Supernatural season 4. My Black Friday haul from Best Buy came in, and I’m marathoning the show while I work! Lots of final papers to grade before school goes on break this Monday.

Since I forgot to mention it last week: I got to meet Marie Lu on the 7, and while I didn’t have as much fun as the Fierce Reads tour in October, it was still really interesting to listen to all the writing tips Marie had for us. Even though I’m not a pantser when I write, it was interesting to get her perspective as a pantser. Maybe now I won’t be so anal when I go back to my writing!

And speaking of writing, I’ve started outlining my book again! I’m working on character profiles right now, and it feels so good to be back. They’re all talking to me again ^.^

Stacking the Shelves

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. Check out her blog here! Basically, it’s a time where I get to show off all the books I got in the past week (purchased, netgalley, borrowed, etc).

No books this week (as of Thursday night)! My money’s gone to Christmas this month, so buying for myself will have to wait. Plus, my mom would kill me if I buy myself stuff because apparently it takes away from her choices 😉

Coming This Week

  • Monday – Review of World After by Susan Ee (I promise this time!)
  • Tuesday – Top Ten Tuesday
  • Wednesday – Review of Flat Out Love by Jessica Park
  • Thursday – Discussion Post (not sure of topic yet)
  • Friday – Mini Reviews: Skin and Bones by Sherry Shahan, In the Blood by Sara Hantz, and The Summer I Found You by Jolene Perry

As always, this is a rough schedule, and I may add more or skip a day depending on how life rolls.

How was your week? Anything you’re looking forward to in the next few days? What sort of books did you pick up? And any good plans for Christmas?

  1. Yay for meeting an author! I am a half planner, half pantser. xD
I need to read Ignite and see which side I fall-the love it or hate it. And watch Supernatural! :/
I look forward to your World After review and your discussion posts as always 😀

    • You know what’s funny? Now that I’m writing again, and outlining these characters, part of me wants to just say “screw it I’m going to write” and just pants my way through the first draft. But I know myself – I’ll get halfway through and say what the heck am I doing?? So I guess I’ll outline and then just use it as a guideline that I can deviate from if I need to.

YES watch Supernatural!!! And you can tweet/email all you want and I’ll provide the shock blankets for when you fall in love with Dean Winchester.

I had so much fun writing my WA review! I’ve decided to change how I structure my reviews, and I think it really helps the flow.

  2. A string quartet covering Numb? Hmmm…that’s something you don’t hear every day! I’m not supposed to buy any books either this close to Christmas. I did buy a cheap one yesterday but it’s too embarrassing to admit to in public and was so badly written I didn’t make it past the first few pages!

    • Oh they’re so beautiful! And the VSQ covers a lot of rock/pop songs – I think they have over 200 albums on iTunes? Definitely check them out! I’m sure out of all their songs you would find one that you like 🙂

Ohhh that’s karma biting you back! I hate it when that happens xD Though I might be going to a used bookstore today… We’ll see if I can restrain myself!

  3. Oh my gosh, I know what you mean about having no money from Christmas and parents getting upset when you buy things for yourself. 🙂 Story of my life. I tend not to share what I’m doing with my money so people can’t freak out till it’s too late. Hehe. Have a lovely week!

    • You sound like me! I went and bought the Infernal Devices series today, and only told my mom after. In my defense, it was with a gift card plus some money I had been given for Christmas. So I’m totally in the clear 😉

I'd love to hear from you! Comment below and we can fangirl, rant, or cry over whatever it is that strikes our fancy. I truly appreciate each and every comment, and I'd love to chat!
